To the Terraces Born: Classic Football Terrace Reading   -  Trevor Denton

Synopsis
In this eye-opening and often shocking expose of football hooliganism, self-confessed delinquent Trevor Denton reveals the testosterone-fuelled antics of the men who wreak havoc on the terraces and have made English football fans so internationally reviled. Yet theirs is no mindless anarchy: they plan their violence with military precision and factions are controlled by self-appointed, mafia-style bosses. At home, Denton and his tribe are fiercely loyal to their beloved Chelsea and equally fierce in their antagonism towards other clubs. But once abroad, all boundaries break down and the English "fans" become united under one flag. While the beautiful game itself figures only incidentally in these pages, Denton's narrative offers an insight into one of the more chilling aspects of English culture. With langauge that is likely to offend and a distinctly non-PC flavour, "To the Terraces Born" is not for the liberal or squeamish.
